Ward Family Vacations

Italy 2001

Welcome Dinner

Our first day in Rome, we took an afternoon stroll and then came back to the room to rest.  In the early evening we met our tour group in the lobby to leave for our Welcome Dinner to Rome.  We walked from the hotel to the bus and were introduced to our bus driver, Lino, who was a gorgeous young man, which was not lost on my Jessica. (Jessica was not lost on him either!). Jessica Maureen let us folks trying to fix her up know that she already had a boyfriend. (I hope I have you covered "evil-twin Jessica").

We arrived at our restaurant and were shown to an upstairs private room. Bottles of red and white wine (along with bottled water) were on the tables waiting for us. We had a wonderful 7-course veal dinner.

I don't even know the names of the other dishes, but everything was delicious. A 7-course dinner sounds like a lot, but it is served in small portions and at intervals where you actually enjoy a meal. It's not like we eat in the States, where you put everything on one plate and pig-out all at once! We also learned, that wine is served with all meals in Italy and boy did I feel it the next morning!

The restaurant had entertainment (which I also learned is a custom in fine restaurants) - a guitar player and saxophone player who sang all the old Italian favorites including mom's, "Que Sera Sera" (Inside joke).'

The fellas all wanted a picture with the girls.

Jessica Maureen made a hit with the waiter! She was the only one to get more than a little, itsy bitsy bowl!

At the end of the evening all the ladies receive a rose.

After being wined and dined we were all in a good mood on our way back to the Albani.
