Forum

On Sunday morning, March 11th, we left out early for our ride to the Forum and Colosseum. Wow, what a sight!  We think it is such a big deal to have a homes in Vicksburg 150 years old. These monuments are thousands of years old - the history is unbelievable. This was our first view of the forum.  It is not hard to envision that thousands of years ago this was where the Romans came to do business, where justice was served and where people worshipped.  I tried to envision Roman senators standing on the steps of some of these ruins.   Our tour guide told us that the beautiful marble that once was on these buildings, was taken as they began to decay to build newer structures so much of the old beauty is gone and all that is left is what you see here.   The forum dates back to 6 B.C.

Just to give you an idea how old things are, the three pillars in the center of the forum are what is left of the Temple of Castor and Pollux and is dated 484 B.C. The Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine are to the left of the Forum.`
