Ward Family Vacations

Italy 2001

Murano Glass Factory

Our first full stop after arriving at St. Mark's Square and being dropped off by the water taxis was the Murano Glass factory.  During this visit we were given a demonstration of glass blowing which they made look very easy, but obviously there is much more to it.  It is a family tradition that is passed from father to son.  We learned what was used to make the different colors of glass and found that red glass is made from adding gold, so if you ever see red Venetian glass you are looking at the best or most expensive of the lot.

I bought several bracelets, a pair of earrings and a clasp watch.  They had beautiful chandeliers and all types of glass figures and bowls.
